The following message was posted to: dance-tech For those student composers and computer folks on the list... ==================================================================== The University of Virginia McIntire Department of Music is accepting applications for its PhD program in Composition and Computer Technologies (CCT). Four-year Fellowships and Teaching Assistantships are available to a select number of qualified applicants. Students have the opportunity to work with both acoustic and digital media. Those who explore creative interactions between the two will find our program particularly appealing. Student works are performed by guest artists, faculty and advanced student performers. The Virginia Center for Computer Music (VCCM), founded in 1987, provides a rich development environment for computer music and new audio technologies. The Center houses a wide range of computer resources including Linux and Macintosh computers, and a variety of commercial and locally developed software and hardware. Students have the opportunity to actively create their own new technologies and to become involved with on-going VCCM research projects. Current work involves multichannel digital audio, interactive computer music performance, multimedia, and alternate controllers. PhD students can augment their composition and computer music studies with courses in analysis, critical studies, conducting, orchestration and performance. In addition they can draw on the broad academic resources of the University of Virginia. To be considered for admission with funding, complete applications must be submitted by January 1. More information is available at http://www.virginia.edu/music/graduatestudy.html Please contact Judith Shatin (jsa@virginia.edu) or Matthew Burtner (mburtner@virginia.edu) if you would like to discuss the program.
