The following message was posted to: dance-tech Hello All, The Live-I (Live-Interactive) Showings are designed to allow artists who use digital media as an integral part of their creative or performance practice to show work and receive feedback from a community of like-minded artists. On September 14th, Troika Ranch will host the first of this series at WAX (Williamsburg Art Nexus) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, starting at 2pm and running until 6pm. This is our first regularly scheduled event, so I hope that many of you can take part. (Remember, you don't _have_ to show something to attend.) Our hope in providing this forum is not only to enrich the work of the artists who take part, but also to organize a regular gathering of the community artists who use new media and technology in their work. The showings are not open to the public. You must RSVP if you plan on attending. If you would like to show work, please let me know when you RSVP, and describe briefly what you would like to do. Best Wishes, Mark Coniglio & Dawn Stoppiello Artistic Directors Troika Ranch ------------------------------ ABOUT LIVE-I SHOWINGS ------------------------------ What are Live-I Showings? ------------------------- The Live-I (Live-Interactive) Showings are a regular gathering of artists who utilize digital media as an integral part of their creative or performance practice. The purpose of these gatherings is provide a private forum where the work can be shown, in any stage of development, to a group of artists who addressing similar technical and aesthetic problems. Our hope is to create a supportive environment where the participants can seek critical response, technical know-how, or simply the opportunity to show the work. How Is Each Showing Organized? ------------------------------ Each showing will be approximately four hours long, with 4-6 artists scheduled to show their work. During the first hour, those who are showing will have the opportunity to set up any required technology. The remaining time will be spent showing the work and responding to it. After showing his or her work, each artist will specify if they would like to receive feedback and/or critical response from the entire group. The form of this response can take many forms, i.e., the creator asking questions of the group about what they did or didn't see, a free-form discussion focusing on people's response to the work, etc. Mark and Dawn from Troika Ranch will moderate these discussions to keep them focused and in the format that the artist requested. We find critical response from other creative individuals to be an essential part of our creative process, so we hope most showings will have a discussion of some kind afterwards. However, we also understand that the simple act of showing work to others provides important information to the creator, and so a post-showing discussion is not required. Who Can Attend? --------------- All artists who utilize digital media as an integral part of their creative or performance practice are invited to attend. However, if you plan on attending, you _must_ RSVP in advance -- even if you do not intend to show work yourself. If we are not acquainted with you, please write a sentence or two about how you are using media or technology in your work. We ask that you do this so that we can keep the group focused. What Equipment Is Available? ---------------------------- Troika Ranch will provide: - 2000 Lumen video projector - DVDs or Mini-DV tape playback (please request in advance) - Video camera if required (please request in advance) - WAX has a modest stereo system with RCA line inputs. - Extension Cords Anything else that you need, you should plan to bring with you. Does it Cost Anything? ---------------------- No, the showings are free.
